Turbine Rating

A turbine rating can be done at any stage once you hold a licence. You must complete and pass the approved exam on Basic Turbine Knowledge (BTK), then fly with a qualified instructor to obtain the conversion rating.

Primarily we use the Bell 206 Jetranger for turbine ratings but the BK117 is also an option and rates are available upon request.

The turbine course will cover all aspects of the helicopter, from the technical considerations through to the unique handling characteristics of the aircraft. Your instructor will start with the ground briefing and the technical data relating to the helicopter you will fly. They will also go over some of the knowledge you would have learnt in your BGT studies.

The flying will start with the basics of hovering and circuits then progress through to autorotations and confined areas. Once this has been mastered, we will introduce different weights, more difficult weather conditions and trailer landings, to ensure that you have a completely comprehensive feel for the helicopter to be able to achieve the rating.

If you already have a turbine rating we can assess your experience and shorten the course
to meet your individual requirements depending on which rating you desire.

If you require a BK117 rating you will need to go through the approved ground course, which we can organise for you. Please ask us for details.
