Our Pilots and Instructors

We are extremely proud of our history, with an accident free track record for all of our team. We have trained hundreds of students from all walks of life and have been personal pilots to some of the highest profile international VIP's. You need to have a special set of skills to be a pilot or instructor and we believe we have some of the best in the business that work for us. We are excited about teaching you the gift of flying and look forward to taking you on an adventure when you fly with us in safety and comfort.

Roy Crane - Chief Flying Instructor

Roy is the CEO of Orbit Helicopters and North Shore Helicopter Training. Originally from England, he began flying as a private pilot in 2001 in NZ then gained his Canadian, USA, Australian and New Zealand commercial and Instructor licenses. After buying the business in 2004, he is still passionate about teaching our students who want to learn how to fly and our charter clients as our Chief Pilot and Flight Examiner. Roy is kept busy outside of work with family, sports and an adventurous spirit.

Bryan is our flight school training manager and safety manager. He is a B-Cat instructor with 5 years of instructing experience and over 2200 hours of total flight time in helicopters. Bryan was born and raised Wellington, NZ, has flown all over the world with the military, and now calls the North Shore, home.

 

 

 

Ryan Trounce - Instructor

Ryan joined the team in 2017 as one of our C-Cat Instructors. He started flying in the South Island where he gained his Commercial Pilots licence in 2011. Since then Ryan has been involved in the Agricultural Sector of aviation, living and working in Northland. As a change of pace from flying about Northland, Ryan decided to gain his Instructors Rating whilst completing a Diploma in Aviation with us last year. When not at the airfield, Ryan can be found back in Northland with friends, family and behind the scenes of Ruakaka Surf Club as a committee member.
